Free compositor? Blender!

Not just an awesome 3d package, it has a full node based compositing package as well. Also tracking, stabilizing and grading.

Runs on all platforms and is free and open source.

Blender has a great compositor built into it. Most people think it is just a 3D tool, but it has significant compositing capability. Recent releases have included excellent masking tools that can be used with the Blender's motion tracking. The motion tracking tools is continually being improved. And best of all it is free.
