I edit my videos primarily on my laptop, too. Between moving back and forth and having to transcode, export and move back the finished version of my videos, doing it on Final Cut is more work than necessary.

I came to this video based on its headline and, while I was hoping to find a tip on or hotkey combo for moving the playhead to the beginning or end of a clip instead of scrubbing, I did learn some great tricks for maximizing my workspace because, like you said, resizing windows is really annoying. PS - is there a hotkey combo for moving the playhead to the beginning or end of a clip?
