Frugal Video file Archiving. I've been trying to manage this. If you don't have at least 1 backup of your main drive (and other drives) you are asking for it. I have a stack of drive that have gone out on me in the past. I recently signed up for CrashPlan. I purchased 4 years of unlimited online backup which comes out to about $3 a month. unlike the competition, besides backing up your computer, it also backs up your external and also networked drives. There is also a free way to use it that lets you backup to someone else's computer. It will take a fast connection to get all that data up online.

Hey Scott!

Ok, about backup and storage...
Few ways to go with this.
If the files are not that big, or you don't mind paying on a monthly basis, and you have a good internet conection, you can go the Cloud storage way (Dropbox, Google Drive).
Not often the case for video, but could happen.
As for local storage, I guess the most simple way is buying external HDDs.
You can even buy a couple and automate the process (instead of having RAID setups) with software like Folder Actions (there are Windows and Mac version available).
If you wanna go further on this, you could go the NAS/Router way.

I'm currently using a couple of external HDDs for videos, and Dropbox/Google Drive (synched via Folder Actions) for photos. But been planning for some months now to get a Synology NAS.
Basically a NAS (Network Attached Storage) is an external HDD you can hook directly into your home network, offering several RAID configurations and a way to centralize all your data in one device. It also has advanced configuration options, several ways of accessing data, and it's own web based OS.
The upgrade to this concept would be building a home server.
An easier option would be having a wireless router with USB ports - which you can connect printers and external HDDs.

Anyways, there are several options... it depends on technical knowledge, how much you are willing to spend, how secure your files have to be, and how much time of your workflow you want to dedicate to it.
